Category : National |  Posted Date : 18/01/2013

TOI MANALI: Himachal Pradesh's upper reaches received snowfall on Thursday much to the delight of tourists and residents, who had been reeling under sub-zero temperatures for the past one month.

Since Thursday morning, Shimla and Manali received 5 to 8cm snow while Rohtang pass in Kullu district got over 60cm. It had last snowed in Shimla and Manali on December 14.

Hoteliers say snowfall would prove boon for tourism as visitors would throng Himachal to see the fresh snow. "This is the moment for which we have travelled about two thousand kilometers," said Vidya, a tourist from Mumbai, who is staying in Himachal tourism hotel in Manali.

Traffic was partially affected in upper Manali areas. Till the filing of this report, both Shimla-Chandigarh and Manali-Chandigarh highways were operational.

Shimla meteorological office director Manmohan Singh said, high hills of state would get heavy snowfall on Friday and moderate snowfall on Saturday. "Mid and low hills would experience heavy rain and thundershowers in next 48 hours," he said.
